To complete the Gaisce challenge, students have to think of a skill that they would like to develop, or improve upon. Why not cookery?

The Kids in the Kitchen course runs over 13 weeks and involves practical cookery classes that will teach students a number of cooking techniques, while also building up their recipe repertoire.

During the course students learn about different food ingredients and their nutritional value, multicultural cuisines, food hygiene and health and safety in the kitchen.

Students who complete the course will receive a Gasice recognised certificate in respect of their personal skills hours.

At the end of the course every student will have a recipe folder full of menu ideas such as

Indoor BBQ

Classes accommodate up to 20 students (minimum of 10 students)

Classes run for 90 minutes and are available for periods of 5/6/8 and 10 weeks, subject to school timetables.

Kids do all the work!

The class work in pairs with Victoria to prepare and cook the dishes while learning about the ingredients and their nutritional value as part of a balanced diet.

Families get to taste!

Children then bring their dishes home.

Recipe Books

Each student will receive a recipe leaflet every week – at the end of the course they will have compiled a full recipe folder as well as receiving a certificate.

Ages:

Primary School courses are currently available to children in 3^rd,4^th, 5^th and 6^th classes.

Premises:

Primary schools that are attached to a secondary school may be in position to benefit from their Home Economics kitchens.
Alternatively, No-Cook cooking courses are available or temporary catering equipment may be arranged in schools on request.

Kids in the Kitchen will be
offering a selection of summer cookery courses throughout June, July and
August.

During each course,
children will learn lots of new recipes and valuable cooking skills as well as
building an understanding of nutrition and healthy eating. After cooking their
dishes, children will sit down to enjoy their creations over a team lunch.

Children work in pairs and
prepare and cook a selection of different dishes.

This is followed by a team
lunch where we all sit down to enjoy our culinary efforts.

All menus are designed
specifically to provide for a healthy balanced diet.

Here is a sample of just
some of the recipes children will be cooking:

Stuffed pancakes, spaghetti
and meatballs, sticky chicken wings, cheese pies, seedy flapjacks, spicy
wedges, sausage patties and lots more.

At the end of the course,
each child will receive a chefs hat, certificate and folder full or recipes
from their course.

All utensils
and ingredients are supplied.

Every
effort is made to accommodate any special dietary requirements or allergies.

Kids roll up their sleeves!

All classes are practical and involve imparting valuable basic cookery skills to guys and girls, while also developing their understanding of nutrition and balanced diet.

The objective is to give kids the skills and confidence to cook a variety of dishes.

Courses typically take place on-site in schools’ social and scientific kitchens after school. In cases where kitchens are unavailable, it may be possible to partner with other nearby schools or arrange portable catering equipment in school labs/ classrooms subject to risk assessment.

Our 5th and 6th year school workshops provide a welcome escape from the world of study and impart valuable cooking skills to students.

The programme is designed to inspire students with creative cookery ideas to fuel them for their exams and prepare them for college life.

Teenager friendly

All the recipes are easy without fuss and focus on taste, speed and ease of preparation, cost and light on the clean-up!

Students will enjoy the dishes they have cooked at a team lunch and will bring home their afternoon creations to enjoy with family and friends.

1 full day workshop €70 per student with all ingredients supplied.
